 Philosophy of Education

I believe that education is a three way partnership involving the parents, the teacher, and the student.  The strongest influence on a child's education happens in the home, and my goal is to support and nurture independent growth through curricular instruction and reinforcement of responsible behavior.  Education will enable the student to become a life long learner and a productive member of society.

Teaching Goals

  • Whole and small group instruction.
  • Individualized instruction as needed.
  • Project based and hands-on instruction.
  • Variety of assessments used to measure growth including: rubrics, observation, discussion, cooperative learning, paper/pencil, journals, learning logs, checklists, role-play, and demonstration.

Student Goals

Organization, independence, achievement, responsibility, and citizenship are the goals that we will encourage our students to set and attain.  We will work throughout the year to achieve these goals with the use of a daily planner, routines, class discussions, role-modeling, rewards, and consequences.

Classroom Rules

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Be Safe

Absences

If your child is absent they will receive their work the next day upon returning to class.  If your child is absent more than one day please call to request homework or send the name of a student neighbor that we may send it home with.  It is much easier for a child to keep up than to catch up.

Snacks

At the beginning of the year, students seem hungry in the morning even though our lunch is in the middle of the school day.  For this reason, I am not opposed to snacks in the classroom and will try to set aside a time, however, the snacks should be healthy and students need to be responsible and pick up any mess they make so we don't get ants in the classroom.

Parties

There will be occasions throughout the year when we will have classroom celebrations. I may ask for contributions from you at these times.  On student birthdays we will acknowledge their special day.  Students may bring a birthday treat to share with their classmates.
