2018-19 Literacy Curriculum

This year, students will be using the BookWorms curriculum. BookWorms uses 3 different pieces to help students succeed:

- English Language Arts: ELA encompasses Read Aloud, Grammar, Word Study (spelling) and Writing.

- Shared Reading: I refer to Shared Reading as Language Workshop. During this section of our Literacy Block we read the same book together as a class and apply strategies to understand and dive deeper into the text.

- Differentiation: Differentiation allows teachers to make sure that they are teaching students on their own personal level of understanding. Students will be working in small groups with other students in the class who have similar strengths and need assistance in similar areas. Differentiation (also referred to as Reader's Workshop or Daily 5) is a key component to helping your student grow as a reader and writer.
