The FRCHS Robotics Team, the WARHBOTS, travelled to Kettering University last Thursday for their first tournament of the year. Coach Blaine Armstrong determined that a simple strategy was appropriate as this was the first year of the program. The build went well as did programming. The team would go bare bones, have one motor (some schools had 10!) that would do a single task, then the robot would switch to defense. Well, it was a brilliant strategy, the resulting robot was quick, agile and could perform that task of collecting gears flawlessly. Of the assembled 40 teams, the Wahrbots ended the first day in 11th Place, and were chosen by two other veteran teams to form an alliance. That formidable triumvirate destroyed the competition and won in the finals over some previously ranked teams. The victory catapulted the Rams in to the State Rankings and they are now 10th in our district. On Sunday, Fox Sports Detroit aired their RoboZone show with clips of the competition and an interview with our own WAHRBOTS! Go Rams! http://www.robozonetv.com/ The spot will be posted on the RoboZone website.
