Flat Rock History The city of Flat Rock was founded by Michael Vreeland sometime between 1811 and 1820. The town used to be named the Village of Vreeland since the Vreeland family owned 800 acres of land in the area. They gave up control of the land in 1838, and Flat Rock was incorporated as a village in 1923 and again as a city in 1965.
