Welcome to Barnes Elementary School! My name is Kirstie Mullins and I have the honor of being the principal of this academically successful and caring school. I began my career in education 21 years ago. I have taught grades K-5 in Detroit and Monroe Public Schools. This is my ninth year as the principal of Barnes Elementary School.
On a personal note, My husband (Gene) and I have two children, Sophia and Peyton. Sophia is a dental assistant and Peyton is a senior in high school. We also have a rescue dog named Maxwell Smart.
I believe it is important to be a lifelong learner. I earned my Bachelor's Degree and teacher certification from Madonna University. My Master's Degree was earned through Marygrove College. Early in my teaching career, I knew I wanted to make a difference on a broader spectrum. I decided to return to school to earn my Specialist in Educational Leadership and also obtained Administration Certification in 2010. Throughout my career in administration, I have also been a member of several professional organizations.
In my eight years as serving principal, I can tell you that the best part of my work is the amazing people! The enthusiasm and dedication of our students, families, community members, and staff have helped to create a wonderful learning community. I believe that everyone working together will help our students and school to continue to flourish.
Yours Truly,
